Discover SilLess® technology and its application in primary packaging (prefilled syringes)!

At Pharmapack 2023, Clayens NP Plastibell will present its SilLess® innovation, a silicone coating process applicable in particular to prefilled syringes (PFS – Prefilled Syringes), which reduces the amount of lubricant applied while improving glide through silicone cross-linking and controlled, even distribution.

The core of this unique silicone coating technology, patented after seven years of research with several players in the dermal filler market, lies in the sequence of surface pre-treatment steps before coating, even silicone deposition and cross-linking on the syringe barrel.

This process, called "Silless®", already implemented on an extra-long 1 ml syringe, delivers unique break-loose and glide performance while greatly limiting the amount of silicone required (<90µg/cm²). It also provides biocompatible treatment (ISO 10993-1 / USP class VI), does not affect syringe clarity and has demonstrated excellent long-term stability through unique control of the bond between silicone and syringe barrel. Extractables and leachables testing also showed that deposited silicone does not interact with injectable products such as hyaluronic acid.

This process is controlled in production thanks to laboratory equipment acquired to monitor silicone thickness and distribution (see figure opposite). The technology can today be applied to syringes made from various polymers such as COC, COP and PP. Studies are underway with innovative, world-renowned players in the parenteral drug delivery market to broaden the scope of application, including glass primary packaging (syringes) and other plastic primary packaging (COC tubes).
