Clayens Expands its Technological Expertise (Thixomolding) Through a Strategic Acquisition in USA

Clayens, a global leader in plastic injection and machining, continues its pursuit of innovation by adding a new technology to its portfolio: Thixomolding. This technological diversification follows a recent acquisition based in Loveland, Colorado, USA.
With a team of 80 people and eight injection presses dedicated to Thixomolding technology, this plant enables Clayens to offer new technological options to its customers.
What is Thixomolding?
Thixomolding is a semi-solid magnesium injection technique that combines the intrinsic properties of the material with the productivity of injection technology derived from thermoplastics. This technology enables molding of thin-walled parts with an unmatched strength-to-weight ratio. Tolerances achieved with this technology rival those of the best thermoplastics, through a net shape process that requires no finishing or post-production treatment
Magnesium is 100% recyclable and highly abundant, placing it among sustainable materials with a low environmental impact.
The value and applications of this technology for medical devices
The strength of Thixomolding lies in its ability to leverage magnesium, a naturally lightweight metal. This makes it possible to design medical devices that are easier to handle and more ergonomic, with low porosity, high corrosion resistance, and excellent surface quality. Parts produced by this method combine that lightness with remarkable robustness, ensuring longer equipment life and greater reliability, thereby reducing risks linked to potential malfunctions.
Medical applications manufactured at the Loveland site are highly varied: advanced electromedical systems, surgical robots, protective systems, and oxygen concentrators, among others.
"Acquiring this Thixomolding expertise is a strategic step forward for CLAYENS, adding a valuable capability to our technology portfolio. For those who have not yet explored this technology, I invite them to imagine medical devices that are even more efficient, lightweight, and reliable. Through innovation and diversification, we continue to best meet our customers' needs." Thierry MARTIN, Design Department Manager at CLAYENS.
